Learning for the Fourth Age has a number of small group and one to one sessions running with older people in Leicester and Leicestershire. Many of the people we work with are in their 80’s and 90’s and have taken up painting and drawing in the last few weeks, months or years. It is fantastic to facilitate the art sessions and watch the older people and the volunteers working with them growing in confidence and enjoying the therapeutic benefits of being creative. One older person in her 90’s wrote recently, “I can no longer knit or sew because of an accident, I joined the L4A art group and … the team have opened a new interest and world for me. I look now at shapes more closely. I enjoy the mixed classes as well as the one to one. I feel I have improved …. I am so glad I joined the class, I am much more observant of light, shade and colour and I have made new friends.” This grant from Johh Lewis will enable us to put on a show and celebration of the work created and the learning that has been achieved by the older people we work with – watch this space!
