How L4A can help you
Research shows there are real benefits to learning, yet because of time pressures, care staff rarely can offer the same opportunities as Learning for the Fourth Age.
Relatives of older people look for social and mental fulfilment when they are deciding on a care home. Inspection of care homes also focuses on the quality of social activities.
Our service can make a real difference to the quality of a resident’s life, and gives them new things to reflect upon or discuss, backed up with materials to enjoy between sessions.
L4A currently operates in the Leicester and Leeds areas. We would be more than happy to discuss providing our services to your care home or homes. To express an interest, speak to a member of the L4A team or ask any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Here is a sample of feedback that L4A has received from residents:
"I enjoy everything - it's stimulating conversation. We talk about all kinds of things!"
"The nice, cheerful manner made all the difference"
[My learning mentor] "is exceptionally nice and has an understanding of old age"
"It has helped me an awful lot to get thoughts and books and materials".
"I like it that I am in charge of which interests we follow."
"I used to think that my days of learning were over 30 years ago!"
"I look forward to the sessions every week."
"[My learning mentor] encourages me to learn more that I could by myself."
"I would like continued input. I enjoy the service"
To find out more, please speak to your care home manager, activities provider or friends and relatives. Alternatively, please contact us.
In some cases, Learning for the Fourth Age also works with individual residents or couples, if the care home does not offer our service. To find out more about this, please contact us.
