Become a volunteer
We always need volunteers and believe that everybody has something important to contribute to the lives of care home residents. We will induct you, train you and support you throughout your placement. We also hold monthly social meetings where you can share tips and experiences, ask questions and be part of a wider L4A network. We also refund all legitimate expenses.
The main role that we recruit for is a volunteer learning mentor role but we also have other positions for volunteers, from administrative staff to one off session facilitators to members of our advisory board. Residents have a wide range of interests and we have (or can find) a volunteer position to suit most people.

Becoming a learning mentor
There are huge benefits to keeping an elderly mind active. Sadly, pressures on care home staff mean they rarely have time to provide one to one stimulating discussions and activities. As a learning mentor you can help to fill this gap and return independence and dignity to your elderly mentees.
Become a learning mentor with Learning for the Fourth Age and you will improve the quality of life for the care home residents that you visit. Your experience with us will be entirely unique because you will tailor the discussions and activities with the residents to their specific wants, interests and needs.
You will go into the homes of elderly people for discussions and activities and you will also provide them with materials, information and photos to keep their minds active in between sessions. We only ask for 2 to 3 hours per week.
We will provide training and support for you and will always be contactable if you ever have any questions, issues or concerns. We will also arrange for regular social events where you can share tips, advice and experiences.
If you are interested and can spare 2 or 3 hrs per week please fill in this short form.
Become a supporter member
The most important thing that you can do to help L4A provide educational service, develop and grow to reach more residents is to become a supporter member. We will keep you up to date with our work, enabling you to participate when you can. L4A supporter members also receive a copy of our newsletter, full of news, information and updates of our work, as well as photographs and opportunities for you to become involved.
